Film – Sonchiriya Review

Cast – Sushant Singh Rajput, Manoj Bajpai, Bhumi Pednekar, Ashutosh Rana, Ranvir Shorey

Director – Abhishek Chaubey

Brilliant screen play, stellar performances and one gripping tale set in history unfolds with stellar performance, narration and direction, the film is based on redemption, remorse and salvation.

The film is set during the Emergency; it delves into the lives of rebels, who were driven into the oblivion. The film is an anguished plea against injustice and oppression.

Two worlds in same premise, one features – Lakhna (played by Sushant Singh) a rebel who is remorseful about his indiscriminate killings and battles his own demons. Ranvir Shorey as Vakil is brutal and unforgiving. His character drives most of the first half and he makes every second count.

Film – Sonchiriya Review

Veteran Manoj Bajpayee as the legend, Maan Singh, the superme leader among the band of bandits, commands the attention and respect wordlessly. And the dark horse of the film, actor Ashutosh Rana plays a self-righteous cop out to settle personal scores.

And then there is another of Bhumi Pednekar as the gun-wielding Indu, her son, who is perhaps the most bloodthirsty. He wants his mother dead, at any cost even when his father wants to forgive his wife.

And the two worlds collide, when Sushant Singh Rajput’s Lakhna decides to rid his guilty conscience of its inexorable burden by helping a woman to protect and heal a brutally raped girl-child.

The little brutalized girl from whom the film gets its title.
