Rating- *** (3/5)

Mahesh Babu Starrer Maharshi focuses on the very idea of India, it emphasizes on the need for working towards the greater good of the society rather than focusing on personal success. No matter how successful they are in their lives, which despite tilting towards a capitalistic economy is still a socialist country.

Rishi (Mahesh Babu) is a superman, his pursuit of success is Kryptonite. Rishi solves impossible sums in a jiffy. He is crazy about being successful, although it is a little annoying  for a stickler grammar rules that they uses the word ‘success’ as a verb rather than a noun. In his campus selection interview, Rishi gives the interviewers a counter offer, having created an operating system driven by artificial intelligence. One of the biggest attractions of the film is undoubtedly Mahesh Babu. The first half of the movie is about Rishi chasing success, with his father (Prakash Raj) as his role model for what he shouldn’t be, a failure.

After preaching and educating India and its countrymen about the importance of farmers, the movie comes to a very swift and convenient end. While the music by Devi Prasad is pedestrian, the styling in the movie deserve applause. Mahesh Babu really looks sharp and crisp in whatever he dons. Pooja Hegde looks glamorous and is a perfect fit in the role. She does well in the company of Mahesh and their college episodes have come out well.

The emotional subject chosen featuring the farmers works well in the film and is the mainstay during the second half. Rajeev Kanakala, Jayasudha, Rao Ramesh are adequate in their respective roles. Overall the movie has top-notch performances, decent humor, relatable social message, and Mahesh’s screen presence are main assets, besides slow pace and slightly predictable.
