Actor-filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who will be sharing screen space with Anil Kapoor in a film titled ‘Ak vs Ak’, has shared an old interview with a 63-year-old actor on social media on Tuesday in which he talks about competition between television and film industry in the period of 1990s.
Sharing Anil Kapoor’s small interview on his Instagram handle, Kashyap wrote, “Classic AK @anilskapoor ... the argument from the TV days still holds today for OTT. Even if the OTT costs a bit comparatively. Both will sustain individually. But look at that swag #AKvsAK @netflix_in releasing Dec 24th”.
Nowadays, there is a constant debate that whether the entry of OTT platforms will kill the business of the film industry in India, and such kind of debate used to happen in the 1980s and 1990s when the television industry was growing in India and whether it would have killed the business of films.
In the interview, young Anil Kapoor can be seen talking about it wearing a black suit and smoking a cigarette, he said, “TV is here to stay and slowly, it’s going to take over the entertainment business”.
When asked about what will happen to the film business, Kapoor said, “Film business is going to on. It’s going to be tough competition and there will be survival of the fittest. As a film star, you have to work hard and do your best because people have to pay money to see us (film actors) and as far as TV stars are concerned, the audience can see them free of charge, so the competition is tough. When people are going to see our films, they have to spend Rs.50 and as far as television is concerned, people can see TV stars without paying anything by sitting at their homes, so we (film actors) have to fight.”
As soon as Kashyap posted Kapoor’s interview on his Instagram handle, ‘Pukar’ actor called himself Nostradamus in the comment section with laughing emoji as he was a well known French astrologer who used to anticipate incidents which are going to happen in the future.
‘AK vs AK’ is a black comedy thriller film directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and stars Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap. Written by Avinash Sampath, the film follows a film director who kidnaps the daughter of a star and shoots it as the star searches for her. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Harshvardhan Kapoor play supporting roles in the film. It will have a premiere on Netflix from 24 December 2020
