Cannes Festival president Pierre Lescure during a press conference opened up about Coronavirus outbreak and said the board does not improve, and there are high chances that the annual festival will be cancelled. However, Lescure is reasonably optimistic and hopes Cannes will go ahead as planned.
Speaking to Le Figaro newspaper, Pierre Lescure said, “We remain reasonably optimistic in the hope that the peak of the epidemic will be reached at the end of March and that we will breathe a little better in April,” Lescure said. “But we are not oblivious. If [the situation does not improve], we’ll cancel.”
Slated to be held in French Riviera on May 12, the prep is set to begin in April as the organizers will announce the lineup. However, with recent Paris Fashion Week cancellation amid the coronavirus outbreak makes it harder to imagine the festival proceeding as planned and will be cancelled if the pandemic isn’t in control by May.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases are also increasing in India, with the total up to 74 people.
