I woke up to the greatness of Babasaheb Ambedkar very late in life says, Richa Chadha
Actress Richa Chadha has been bestowed with the Bharat Ratna Dr Ambedkar award by Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. ‘Masaan’ actor has been conferred with the award for her contribution to Indian cinema. Richa Chadha was honoured at Raj Bhawan on Thursday. In her social media post, Richa Chadha stated that she is thrilled after receiving the honour from Maharashtra government and she added that she woke up to the greatness of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar very late in her life due to her caste privilege.
Sharing two pictures from the award ceremony on her Instagram handle, Richa wrote, “Thrilled to be among the recipients of the Bharat Ratna Ambedkar award, conferred upon me by the Hon'ble Governor of Maharashtra. I woke up to the greatness of the giant that was Babasaheb very late in life, perhaps due to my caste privilege! To not understand the caste system, is to not understand India. The awardees included people that cared for the plight of others during Covid as well! Jai Bhim! Jai Hind! Thank you.”
Babasaheb Ambedkar, was an Indian scholar, jurist, economist, politician and social reformer, who inspired the Dalit Buddhist movement and campaigned against social discrimination towards the untouchables (Dalits), while also supporting the rights of women and labour. He was independent India's first Minister of Law and Justice, the chief architect of the Constitution of India, and a founding father of the Republic of India.
Richa Chadha was last seen onscreen in Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s ‘Panga’ along with Kangana Ranaut, Neena Gupta and Jassie Gill.
She next will be seen in Kunal Kohli’s upcoming film titled ‘Lahore Confidential’ along with Arunoday Singh and Karishma Tanna. The film will premiere on ZEE5 on 11 December.
Richa is also headlining Indrajit Lankesh’s upcoming film ‘Shakeela’. In the film, she will be essaying the role of Shakeela, a southern adult film actress, who made it big in the low budget film world.
She is also a part of Anubhav Sinha’s upcoming political satire film ‘Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai’ with an ensemble cast.
