"Parineeti Chopra – Breaking Stereotype With Saina".
Playing a living legend on-screen in a sports biopic is the toughest task for any actor, and Parineeti Chopra believes that Saina is one such movie that will break the stereotype roles which she had been doing and written for her.
Talking about the film during her recent interaction with News Helpline, actor Parineeti Chopra said, “I wanted to surprise the audience with something I am not known for, I am known as happy girl next door type, but that is not me and I wanted to show real me on the big-screen”
“I have been doing roles which were an extension of me, even writers and directors offered me the pretty much similar roles, and I did them but when Saina was offered me, I thought this role is a challenge and this is something I was looking for some time”
After rigorous six months of training for the role, Parineeti admits that she has newfound respect and appreciation for the sport and players. She also wishes that her film might change audience perception as well.
She added, “We all play cricket and badminton at our homes, and I thought to myself I can learn it within two-three days but that was not the case. Then I realize people who play Badminton for India or internationally, is altogether different than what we know of the sport.
“So my personal goal with this film is people to understand that whatever the sport and respect it, Badminton needs to be respected, because I don’t know any sport which is as hectic and difficult to plays as Badminton, though the players make it look easy”
The film is about the ace Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal, who is a former world number 1 badminton player and has won more than 24 international titles. The movie is directed by Amole Gupte and is all set for a theatrical release on March 26.
