"Ranveer Singh wishes legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev on his 62nd birthday".
Actor Ranveer Singh who is playing the role of legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev in Kabir Khan’s upcoming sports drama film ‘83’ wished 1983 cricket world cup winning skipper on his 62nd birthday on social media on Wednesday. In his post, Ranveer wished Kapil Dev good health and thanked him for allowing a team of ‘83’ to present his story on a silver screen.
Sharing a small video of Kapil Dev on his Instagram handle, Ranveer wrote, “Colossus of a Captain! Gem of a person! Thank you Sir for embracing us and allowing us to tell you're an extraordinary story! Here’s wishing the OG @therealkapildev good health and joy on his special day! #ThisIs83 #HappyBirthdayKapilDev”.
In the video, Dev is seen playing cricket and interacting with actors of ‘83’. He also advised emerging cricketers to express themselves in the field and enjoy the game of cricket rather than thinking too much about the future.
Kapil Dev is the only player in the history of cricket to have taken more than 400 wickets (434 wickets) and scored more than 5000 runs in Test cricket format, making him one of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game. On 11 March 2010, Dev was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
Ranveer shares a close bond with Kapil Dev. A few months back, when Dev suffered a cardiac arrest, the ‘Lootera’ actor wished him speedy recovery through social media. Ranveer even spent a few days with Dev at his Delhi residence to prepare for his role in the film.
‘83’ is directed by Kabir Khan and jointly produced by Khan, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Deepika Padukone, and Sajid Nadiadwala. Co-distributed by Reliance Entertainment, the film stars Ranveer Singh along with Deepika Padukone, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Jiiva, Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Nishant Dahiya, Sahil Khattar, and Amrita Puri.
In September 2017, Reliance Entertainment and Vibri Media hosted an event to announce the film with the team that had won the 1983 World Cup.
Earlier scheduled for theatrical release on 10 April 2020, ‘83’ was pushed to Christmas 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India. However, in November 2020, the film was again postponed to March of 2021 by makers seeing the worse occupancy report of audience towards theatres owing to the continuity of pandemic.
