Tara Sharma Saluja shares a video of the ladies compartment of a Mumbai local;

Actor Tara Sharma Saluja shared a shocking video on her Instagram handle on Thursday. In the video, it can be seen that women in an overcrowded ladies compartment of a local train are pushing each other. The video is proof that how Mumbaikars are adhering norm of social distancing in the city despite a huge surge in Covid-19 cases.

Sharing the video on her Instagram handle, Tara wrote, “This is so sad. How is #socialdistancing possible for the common man with a population like ours'? Local train commuters are trying so hard to wear masks and cover their faces but in such proximity, we just have to hope and pray #herdimmunity kicks in soon and a miracle and #corona goes and all are fine #staysafe”.

Local train commuters had a harrowing experience on Tuesday night and Wednesday after services were suspended owing to waterlogging on tracks. Services were suspended on the Harbour line for around 24 hours, while Central Railway and Western Railway services were suspended for around 14 and 11 hours, respectively.

The Central Railway and the Western Railway started special local train services from June 15 to the Mumbai suburban section on the request of the Maharashtra government.

Besides the essential services staff, state and central government staff, employees of nationalized and private banks, PSUs, and pharma companies are currently allowed to travel in local trains. Authorities have made QR code-based identity cards mandatory for traveling on these trains.

Recently, Maharashtra transport minister Anil Parab said that the government will allow the general public to travel via local trains only after taking precautionary measures and taking stock of the situation. He further added that the government will resume local train service in a staggered manner.

Meanwhile, on the 200th day since Covid-19 struck Maharashtra, the state reported a dip in cases but for the second day in a row added over 400 fatalities. The state reported 19,164 cases and 459 deaths on Thursday, taking its total cases to 12,82,963 and toll to 34,345. Mumbai also registered a slight dip in the daily tally of cases with 2,163 reported on Thursday, taking its tally to 1,92,301. The number of deaths in the city was 54—the highest single-day toll in 47 days.
