Filmmaker Karna Johar says that with Kalank, his father’s dream has been fulfilled and it is an emotional film for him which goes beyond mere box-office collection.

The entire ensemble of Kalank along with makers, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Sonkashi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Abhishek Varman, Sajid Nadiadwala and Karan Johar was spotted at the teaser launch of the film.

Talking about the movie, Karan said, “As a producer, all my films are special to me but this one is more than special, it is an emotional film for me. I don’t hope just the good box-office collection for the film, for me, it is beyond all that. This is a dream of my father, which has been fulfilled today. And that means the world to me”

Further sharing detailed anecdotes about the film, which took almost 15 years in making due to emotional reasons, Kara said, “The story of Kalank was conceived in 2003 when Kal Ho Naa Ho was released, the idea of this film germinated within two months. I shared the idea with my father, we had a long discussion about it, because of the atmosphere of the film, which I would not like reveal too much, my father knew a lot about that particular atmosphere. So he personally went to certain areas to research about it, and he was sick at the time but he was passionate about his work”

“When my dad passed away in 2004, there were so many memories attached to this story, I just couldn’t make the film. I just couldn’t do it. I had planned the film, I was about to start shooting for the film, but I couldn’t. Many years passed by and I would often share this story with everyone, and one fine day I told this story to Abhishek Varman, he liked it a lot, and I thought my film will be in right hands with him and finally, the film is made”
Kalank is an upcoming period drama film directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Studios.

The colours, mood and presentation of Kalank is grandiose, the film is 1945 and depicts a saga of love and power.

Kalank will release on April 17.
