Election Commission bans the online streaming of web series based on Modi’s journey

The Election Commission has banned the streaming of Eros Now Web series based on PM Narendra Modi, titled as ‘Modi: Journey of a Common Man’

On Saturday EC stated ordered the producers of Eros Now show, that no biopic material which can disturb the level-playing field during the Lok Sabha elections can be displayed.

The statement read, “You are hereby directed to stop forthwith the online streaming and remove all connected content of the web series ‘Modi: Journey of a Common Man’ till further orders. A compliance report may also be sent immediately,”

The web series was launched online just days ahead of election polls just as the PM Narendra Modi biopic that has also been banned by the EC. The story of both the film and web series revolve around the Modi’s struggles from Chai walla to becoming the Prime Minister of India. The makers had already made 5 episodes available for people to stream on their platform even when EC had banned the movie release.

In its latest order, the EC has reminded Eros Now, of its previous order which said “any biopic material in the nature of biography/hagiography sub-serving the purposes of any political entity or individual entity connected to it, which is intended to, or which has the potential to disturb the level playing field during the elections, should not be displayed in electronic media including cinematograph during the operation of the Model Code of Conduct”.

The Web series directed by Umesh Shukla supposedly has 10 episodes in total.
