ZEE 5’s Kaafir Actress Dia Mirza Believe OTT Has More Exploration Space Than Films
Bollywood actress Dia Mirza after having made her mark in Bollywood and setting a new bench mark with her digital debut in web show titled ‘Kaafir’ on ZEE5, believes that with films there is always limited time and space allowed to the character, but on OTT platform artists get to explore immeasurably.
According to Dia, while many actors have relayed into the OTT platforms, Dia’s venture into web-series is because of the versatility and the independence of the format. For Dia as an artist, actor, and producer, web series excites her tremendously because there is a great potential to not just tell the kinds of stories she really wants to tell, but also to tell the stories with absolute freedom and devoid of the pressure of the box office. The actress yearns for more and more web series.
Dia also deems that in films one needs to tell the story within those two or two and a half hours. But the biggest difference between films and OTT platform narrative is that of reading a couplet and reading an entire novel. In web series, the stories are narrated with eight episodes. And as an artist one gets more room and opportunity to invest, discover and reveal the character within the story. These luxuries are hard to find in films. With films, there is always limited time and space allowed to the character.
The actress comprehended that working for ZEE5 web series ‘Kaafir’, was a unique experience and she got to explore much more with the series.
About the series, ‘Kaafir’ is directed by Sonam Nair. Written by Bhavani Iyer, the series follows Kainaaz Akhtar, a woman from Pakistan occupied Kashmir who winds up on the Indian side of the Line-of-Control (LOC), and is held prisoner under the suspicion of being a militant. After giving birth to a child while spending seven years in imprisonment, Kainaaz and her daughter are helped by an Indian journalist, who seeks to bring them justice. Starring Dia Mirza and Mohit Raina all 8 episodes premiered on 15 June 2019 on the streaming platform ZEE5.
Apart from the ZEE5 web series ’Kaafir’, Dia was also seen in Amazon Prime Video ‘Mind The Malhotras’ and ‘Moguls’ on Hotstar.
